I’ve got to shout out Virginian artist, Richard Graves, he is responsible for the artwork used on the cover. Richard is a good friend and once I saw this piece I immediately wanted to use it for the cover art. At the time I felt like Rich’s abstract portrait style kind of represented what an alien would look like if it was walking around in an Adam Bolt mask (coming to merch soon).

Mountain town is an homage to Waylon Jennings. I had been listening to a bunch of Waylon at this time. I appreciate his confidence and sporadic ideas. His writing was that as if he would sing about the first thing that came to his head. In a lot of ways it reminds me of hip hop music, where not all of the themes and ideas are concise through out the song. In other words you can get many topics covered in a groove driven Waylon style country tune.

The second verse pays respects to Waylon’s reputation. Mountain Town if a fun simple song country ride, the lyrics are left open to interpretation. I have had people tell me that Mountain Town perfectly described the political climate after the 2016 Election, and others have told me that the song is a bunch of words thrown together.

In any case, nothing compares to the musicianship that the band put on this record. All the tracks on AoF were recorded live with out click. This is because Brandon Blevins was so tight that we wanted it to have a live feeling. This was also part of the decision to have the Dobro vs Tele break down at the end. Tommy Dye on the b-bender and Andrew Gilmer on the dobro tear it up as the track fades out.

Lyrics

I lost some friends to drinkin’

I’ve lost some friends to sobriety

I lost some friends to drinkin’

I’ve lost some friends to sobriety

If I can make it through this evening, then I can make it through the week

I lost some friends to women

Some friends they lost their women to me

I lost some friends to women

Some friends they lost their women to me

If you’re think gin about leaving , then just leave me here in peace

All my friends live in the Valley and the Valley is on Fire

All my friends live in the Valley and the Valley is on Fire

And we are watching it all burn from this Mountain Town

I got friends that fight for Uncle Sam

I got friends that fight to keep him away

I got friends that fight for Uncle Sam

I got friends that fight to keep him away

They never ask for nothing, They always have something good to say

All my friends live in the Valley and the Valley is on Fire

All my friends live in the Valley and the Valley is on Fire

And we are watching it all burn from this Mountain Town
